Stand Alone Presentation

At the beginning of My Stand Alone Presentation I talk about the myths and then I give the facts that our book gave about the true meaning of the word Digital Natives. It really doesn’t matter when you were born, what matters is how you use the resources that have been given to you. The reason why people say that the natives were born after 1980 was because that was when digital media started to come into the world and more people were being born around it. People today need to know how to use technology correctly, how to search for information in a scholarly way, and how to reiterate what they have found. We, as educators, need to bring digital media into our classrooms and teach our students how to become scholarly information seekers. We need to work with our students to help them become successful so that they are ready for their future. We need to work hand in hand with our students and their parents. We also need to think about each students background in technology and what strategies we can use. Like I said at the end of my presentation, our young students have bright futures.

  1. Your presentation is a nice balance of facts and of pictures that help to drive your points home. The ‘I’m blogging this’ slide made me actually chuckle! The pictures that you picked definitely add to your overall finished product.
“It really doesn’t matter when you were born, what matters is how you use the resources that have been given to you”- this is my favorite thing that you say! I couldn’t agree more. A lot of people think that older folks don’t know how to use technology or don’t want to know how to use it. But, even before reading this text, I thought that was incorrect.
I also agree that we DO need to work with our students, while keeping all the different backgrounds and abilities in mind, to help them learn, master, and strive in this ever changing world of technology!! Great job! 

  2. I really liked that you began your presentation with the title that you did, it immediately has the viewer questioning any preconceived notions of what it means to be a digital native and the idea that it is more than being born at a certain time.
You used a variety of fonts and colors, images, and photographs; combining those with upbeat music, made for a positive message which you reiterate on the last slide. One thing that I appreciated, probably because I did something similar, was that you created a bit of a narrative with the texts so they read easily from one to another.

Some of your images did a great job conveying concepts than the limited number of texts per slide allowed. One that stood out was slide number 17, which stated the preference of web 2.0 tools, yet the variety of logos illustrated that it also meant that there were numerous choices, as well as reasons why we use what we do and our abilities in using them.

Great job, I enjoyed viewing it.
